GEAR UPdates

The phone system in the CPE building is experiencing problems. If you have recently left a voice mail that has not been returned, the message was likely not delivered. Send an email if you need us to contact you. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

STAFF UPDATES
  • Daniel Carney has been hired as our new Administrative/Information Specialist. A graduate of UK, Daniel hails from Washington County, where he served as Director of Adult Education.Welcome aboard!
  • Bryan Swafford of the Hazard region and Summer Copley of the Morehead region have taken positions elsewhere. We thank them for their contributions to GEAR UP students, and wish them well in their future endeavors!
STAFF MEETINGS
Dates and locations for 2011 staff meetings are being finalized. Details will be emailed to all staff as well as published on the blog calendar.

NCCEP CONFERENCE
The agenda for the NCCEP Capacity Building Workshop scheduled for February does not justify site staff participation. Therefore, site staff are not required to attend and may adjust budgets accordingly.





DRIVE THE DREAM SCHOLARSHIPS 


  • The date for scholarship applications was pushed back from December 14th to January 10th for the areas affected by inclement weather. Applications should be post marked no later than January 10th for consideration.
  • A review committee has been assigned the task of reading/grading essays on
  1. Standard Usage – uses proper grammar, spelling and punctuation
  2. Writing – uses appropriate word choice and active voice with no rambling 
  3. Effectiveness – the entry effectively communicates the student’s story/perspective and reflects a commitment to college/career.
  • Project Associates will be informed of the winners from their area by January 28th and be expected to submit final lists for Institute participation by February 11th 2011. 

GEAR UP ALLIANCE: INSTITUTE FOR A COLLEGE-GOING CULTURE

Thanks to the many efforts of site staff, last year's Institute was a great success. The 2011 Institute will be critical to sustaining all GEAR UP efforts over the last six years!
